ORIGINAL MUSIC FOR ANIMATION : RE:FORM ANCESTORS DVD SERIES

The Sparkhouse line at Augsburg Fortress Press put together the "re:form Ancestors" DVD series (in two insallments, Old and New Testament) in 2011 and 2012. Intended for viewing and discussion by high school-age youth groups and Sunday school classes, this series of animated shorts explores "the real, unpolished, and unexpected personalities" of Biblical characters, often in surprising and-- if you will-- irreverent ways.

Above: a highlight reel of original music I composed for the collection. Setting the lyrics of the Song of Deborah to music proved a huge challenge; singer Andrea Grey placed a bluesy vocal delivery against a hybridized R&B/ new wave backing track. Noah waiting for God to flood the Earth inspired "on hold" bossa nova, EQd to sound like we're hearing it on the phone. 90s West Coast-style hip hop underscores King Solomon's decadence. Some upbeat gospel music enlivens a religious gathering attended by Paul and Lydia.

I also served variously as Foley artist, recordist for narration and character voices, voice talent, and sound designer on the DVDs.
