Hallenbeck is known for music that absorbs the ambience of the world around him, and for sound montage evocative of musical phrasing and rhythm. Fittingly, Retrofit Scores blur the lines between musical composition, Foley, and sound design.

As a collaboration after the fact, these pieces occupy the soundtrack in a manner often divergent from that of scoring a film before its release. These soundscapes sometimes underscore, sometimes intervene or contradict... usually all of the above.
